Bintang’s vision is to “Invest in a Better World”. As pioneers of and advocates for impact private equity investing in Southeast Asia, Bintang believes that a sustainable and impactful approach towards investing will yield superior investment returns.
To do this, Bintang “Partners the Great to do Good” – its employees, investors, investees and partners all share the same passion for sustainable and responsible capitalism.
Bintang was amongst the first Malaysian signatories to the UN's Principles for Responsible Investment and is the only Malaysian signatory to the Operating Principles for Impact Management. Bintang is also the only B Corp Certified private equity firm in Southeast Asia.
Bintang aims to create 150 B Corps by 2050, requiring all investee companies in its first fund, BCP Asia Fund I, to obtain B Corp Certification post-investment. Recent investments by Bintang include Involve Asia, a technology company that operates a performance-based marketing platform; My Care Concierge, a multi-award-winning provider of elderly care solutions; and iHandal, an industry leader in the energy efficiency solutions innovation space.
Bintang has deployed ~USD50 million across a variety of impact strategies. Collectively Bintang’s portfolio companies have achieved a Net Promoter Score of ~80 (significantly above FAANG’s average Net Promoter Score of 15), reduced CO2 emissions by ~450,000 tonnes, and contributed to ~40 charitable and community initiatives with an estimated USD550k monetary impact.
Beyond financial returns, Bintang aims to create impact across communities: it established the Bintang Foundation Pledge whereby 10% of Bintang’s profits will be committed to impact, charity, and welfare initiatives in perpetuity. Furthermore, a third of places within Bintang’s Internship Programs are reserved for high potential youth from under-represented and under-privileged groups.
